It’s not just individuals like you and me who are targeted by scams and receive phone calls from people asking them to send money urgently, it’s companies too! One of the oldest tricks in the book is the CEO scam. Someone who sounds smart and important calls a big company and pretends to be the CEO. They then ask the person who takes the call to transfer money to an overseas bank account. Obviously, it’s all super urgent and confidential and, once they’ve conned you into making the transfer, it’s too late – they’ve disappeared into the sunset with the cash. The moral of the story? If you receive a phone call from Bill Gates, just remember that it might not be the Bill Gates.
