It may not be the healthiest breakfast option, but we love them nonetheless... do you know where croissants come from? In 1683, as the Turks besieged Vienna, a baker helped see off an attack by raising the alarm in advance. To celebrate this victory, the city’s bakers rustled up some little croissants, reminiscent of the shape of the crescent moon that appeared on the flag of the Ottoman Empire. So croissants actually come from Vienna, not France. Who knew! It wasn’t until the 20th century that croissants became a symbol of the French way of life.
