It goes without saying that identical twins – also known as monozygotes – arouse curiosity and interest wherever they go. And in Berlin in 2009, two identical twins committed what appeared to be the perfect crime. They stole jewellery worth an estimated five million euros from a department store in the German capital. DNA found at the scene led investigators to the brothers. The only issue was that since identical twins share exactly the same DNA, it was impossible to find out for certain which of the two had committed the crime. So both had to be released without charge!
