Throughout history, haircuts have been social markers and a sign of belonging. In the Merovingian dynasty (5th-8th century), long hair was synonymous with nobility and liberty for both men and women! Whereas labourers, peasants, as well as their wives and daughters, all had short hair. In the 1960s, long hair became a symbol of counterculture in the West, before reggae saw the popularity of dreadlocks explode in the 1970s. What haircuts do you think we’ll all be wearing in future?
