In the UK, the BBC has kept April Fool’s Day traditions running for decades. In 1957, they broadcast a delicious report telling viewers about the lives of “pasta pickers” on the Italian-Swiss border, AKA farmers who grew spaghetti on trees... Almost 8 million people watched the programme and, the next day, hundreds of viewers contacted the BBC to find out more about the process of growing spaghetti on trees. The BBC’s response? “Plant some pasta dough in tomato sauce and stay optimistic”.
