Meccano dates back to 1898. In the corner of his workshop, Frank Hornby had plenty of fun inventing a construction system with screws and nuts for his children. Before his invention really took off, he marketed the product under the slogan, “mechanics made easy”, and registered the trademark in 1907. The game had such an impact around the world that a 6m long bridge was built in 2013 just outside Manchester made entirely of Meccano parts (using pieces 10x bigger than conventional parts, of course).
