Men’s clothing was much more flamboyant in the past! In the courts of Europe – and depending on the fashions of the time – men would compete to outdo each other’s colours, trims, wigs and high heels. It wasn’t until the late 18th century that male clothing became more uniform, what English psychoanalyst Flügel called “the Great Male Renunciation”. The dark suit gradually took over in the 19th century, eventually becoming the modern uniform of most office professionals. Bad luck.
