Get to know our Tax Director | Meet Christelle from the Tax team!
Who are you ?
I am Christelle, Director in the Global Employer Services team, dealing with Personal income tax matters. I’ve (re)joined Deloitte in June this year, after spending 5 years with big4 firms and 5 years with an international group, managing Global mobility issues worldwide.
What did you want to be when you were small?
When I was a child, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I’ve always been an animal lover, constantly trying to save every creature I encountered, from worms and snails to feeding flies (yes, les mouches! 😄). But this quickly ended during my first internship at a veterinary clinic. I was around 15 and they brought me into surgery one day, leaving me standing there for the entire operation… in front of the removed organs. That was one of the moments I realized that while I love animals, the medical side of things (at least the bloody part) wasn’t for me. Working in tax is now a much safer choice!
What does your child want to be when they grow up?
Every year, at the beginning and end of the school year I create a summary board for my son. One of the sections is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. From “a spider” (during his spider man era) to “working behind a computer” (I guess I’ve inspired him a little!), he now wants to become a “Pikachu Trainer”… I love seeing how his dreams grow and change over time. Cannot wait that he decides to be veterinarian or to join Deloitte :)
What would you sing at karaoke night?
I’m a big fan of music. Growing up, I’d listen to songs on repeat, writing out lyrics because we didn’t have Google back then! I looove karaoke but my friends would tell you “Do not let her take the mic!”- when I hold it, I don’t give it up :)… I have a terrible singing voice. I’ve also tried the karaoke night at the Deloitte University; those who were there know it was unforgettable… for better or worse! :)
Is your glass half full or half empty?
This is something I’m constantly working on. I try to see the glass as half full, but it doesn’t always come naturally—it’s a day-to-day effort. Life can be messy and challenging, but staying positive and finding humor in those moments help us move forward.
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
“If you cannot control it, let it go.” It’s a simple but powerful reminder that we can’t carry the weight of everything on our shoulders. There are so many things in life we can’t influence, and learning to release those worries allows us to focus on what truly matters. It’s not always easy, specially when your brain is constantly in “overthinking mode” but it’s a practice that can bring a lot of peace.
What would be your best advice for the Young People who want to join a Big4/ Deloitte/ a Tax department?
My advice for young people aspiring to join Deloitte or any big4 firm would be focused on three areas:
- “BE CURIOUS!” Technical knowledge is important, but soft skills are really what truly set you apart in the long run. Curiosity drives growth, learning, and success in a dynamic environment like Deloitte.
- “BE HUMBLE” and open to learning from others. Teamwork is crucial – we rely on each other’s strengths to overcome challenges and deliver results.
- “NETWORK” Joining a Bif4 firm is also an incredible opportunity to build a strong network. The relationship you form here can become friendships, professional future partnerships, and sometimes even both at the same time! Investing in those connections is just as important as delivering exceptional work.
You have the chance to develop yourself not only as professional but as individual, so embrace the opportunity :)
