Fun fact

Since ancient times, humans have used white lead – also known as Spirits of Saturn – to lighten their skin. Particularly in the 16th century, people would mix this substance with animal fat or wax to make a type of homemade foundation. The problem? White lead is a toxic pigment. Queen Elizabeth I, who ruled England and Ireland from 1558 until her death in 1603, is even said to have died from an overdose on this particular cosmetic! 3
