People tend to resolve conflict through the prism of their own view of a situation. Since 1 January 2020 in the EU, any disputes worth more than €5,000 – as well as neighbour disputes – must be looked at by an arbitrator or legal mediator. What’s the difference? Well, mediators help the parties find their own solution to a conflict, while arbitrators put forward solutions themselves. For mediators, suggesting or even imposing solutions is the last thing they want to do, because those solutions risk not being sustainable and could lead to people rebelling against them or seeking revenge. We’re all human, after all. Right?
