Ever heard of the Law of 250? It’s the story of Joe Girard, who’s listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as “the world’s greatest salesman”. Attending a funeral one day, as the mass cards were handed out, typical of a Catholic service, an intrigued Joe went up to ask the priest how he knew how many cards to print out? The priest responded: “250! That’s how many people generally attend a funeral. And the same for weddings”. Joe drew an important conclusion – if most people have 250 people in their lives who’d show up to their funeral or wedding, that means each customer represents 250 potential referrals. So, Joe kept a file on all his customers, and every month, as well as on birthdays and special occasions, he’d send a greeting card to each and every customer on the list. Just a little note to make sure he remained fresh in their minds. . That meant whenever his previous customers were asked if they knew a good car salesman, Joe’s name would come straight to mind. What will you get out of this? In one day he sold 18 cars, in a month he sold 174, in a year he sold 1,425, and in 15 years he sold 13,000!
