The authorities in Paris allow filming of movies and videos – but don’t allow streets to be blocked off for technical teams to set up (sound recordists, cameramen and women, costume designers, etc.). That’s how the strange job of the “human traffic cone” came about. Whenever a film shoot is planned on location, these helpers – who are indispensable to the film industry – stand guard on the street 24/7 in the days and weeks leading up to filming, occupying parking spaces as and when they become free! With a lot of patience and determination, they often manage to claim a good half of the street alone, protecting these precious spots so that filming can go without a hitch on the big day.
