Get to know our Tax Director | Meet Christelle from the Tax team!

Who are you ? I am Christelle, Director in the Global Employer Services team, dealing with Personal income tax matters. I’ve (re)joined Deloitte in June this year, after spending 5 years with big4 firms and 5 years with an international group, managing Global mobility issues worldwide.  What did you want to be when you were small? When I was a child, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I’ve always been an animal lover, constantly trying to save every creature I encountered, from worms and snails to feeding flies (yes, les mouches! 😄). But this quickly ended during my first internship at a veterinary clinic. I was around 15 and they brought me into surgery one day, leaving me standing there for the entire operation… in front of the removed organs. That was one of the moments I realized that while I love animals, the medical side of things (at least the bloody part) wasn’t for me. Working in tax is now a much safer choice! What does your child want to be when they grow up?  Every year, at the beginning and end of the school year I create a summary board for my son. One of the sections is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. From “a spider” (during his spider man era) to “working behind a computer” (I guess I’ve inspired him a little!), he now wants to become a “Pikachu Trainer”… I love seeing how his dreams grow and change over time. Cannot wait that he decides to be veterinarian or to join Deloitte :) What would you sing at karaoke night? I’m a big fan of music. Growing up, I’d listen to songs on repeat, writing out lyrics because we didn’t have Google back then! I looove karaoke but my friends would tell you “Do not let her take the mic!”- when I hold it, I don’t give it up :)… I have a terrible singing voice. I’ve also tried the karaoke night at the Deloitte University; those who were there know it was unforgettable… for better or worse! :) Is your glass half full or half empty?  This is something I’m constantly working on. I try to see the glass as half full, but it doesn’t always come naturally—it’s a day-to-day effort. Life can be messy and challenging, but staying positive and finding humor in those moments help us move forward. What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?  “If you cannot control it, let it go.” It’s a simple but powerful reminder that we can’t carry the weight of everything on our shoulders. There are so many things in life we can’t influence, and learning to release those worries allows us to focus on what truly matters. It’s not always easy, specially when your brain is constantly in “overthinking mode” but it’s a practice that can bring a lot of peace. What would be your best advice for the Young People who want to join a Big4/ Deloitte/ a Tax department? My advice for young people aspiring to join Deloitte or any big4 firm would be focused on three areas: “BE CURIOUS!” Technical knowledge is important, but soft skills are really what truly set you apart in the long run. Curiosity drives growth, learning, and success in a dynamic environment like Deloitte. “BE HUMBLE” and open to learning from others. Teamwork is crucial – we rely on each other’s strengths to overcome challenges and deliver results. “NETWORK” Joining a Bif4 firm is also an incredible opportunity to build a strong network. The relationship you form here can become friendships, professional future partnerships, and sometimes even both at the same time! Investing in those connections is just as important as delivering exceptional work. You have the chance to develop yourself not only as professional but as individual, so embrace the opportunity :)

Get to know our colleague | Meet David from Advisory & Consulting - Banking Solutions team !

I joined Deloitte in February 2023 as an analyst in the Industry Solutions Digital Banking (ISDB) team. Coming from an internship at Amazon, I was eager to join Deloitte because of the possibility to tackle new unique challenges and expand my skill set. Since then, I have worked in multiple projects and a variety of roles, and the opportunities I have had to develop professionally and personally have exceeded my expectations every step of the way. Just over a year later after joining, I was promoted to consultant, a reflection of the incredible support and opportunities for growth that Deloitte has offered me. What is your role and what are your responsibilities? "My work at Deloitte centers around core banking system implementations, where I have taken on various roles, including business analyst, tester, and delivery manager. Each role has presented unique challenges and learning experiences, helping me build a strong foundation in both technical and project management skills. In addition to that, one of the most rewarding aspects has been the chance to work on generative AI initiatives. As consultants, we constantly seek ways to work smarter and more efficiently, and working on AI-powered tools to assist us on our day-to-day has been a fulfilling way to contribute to this vision." What do you think about your team? "One of the best parts about my team is its international mix. Even though we all work in Luxembourg, a very small country, we are a group of people from different parts of the world that would have never met if we did not work together. Each team member brings unique perspectives and experiences, making collaboration a rich learning experience both personally and professionally." What lessons have you learned since you joined? "Consulting comes with a steep learning curve, especially in the early months. In every project you work in, you must be able to quickly learn how to deliver in your new role, become an expert in the subject of the project, and adapt to the way of working of your new team. Here are a few key learnings that have helped me settle in: Adaptability is essential. Each new project will require you to learn new things and change the way you work. Not only that, but project scopes and priorities can also shift unexpectedly. Being adaptable allows you to respond quickly to evolving client needs and keep up with the fast pace of consulting work. Clear communication makes projects work. Consulting requires frequent collaboration with clients and team members, and communicating clearly and steadily is essential for keeping everyone aligned. Whether it’s providing updates, explaining complex concepts, or gathering input, strong and constant communication helps drive projects forward. Building strong relationships will make your life easier. A strong network of support within the team and a good relationship with clients not only makes the work more enjoyable but also strengthens collaboration and trust, making it easier to overcome challenges and deliver results." Could you please share your experiences and upcoming opportunities? "Recently, I had the privilege of representing Deloitte at the Luxembourg Software Testing Event (LSTE), where Deloitte was one of the sponsors. This event was a great chance to connect with other professionals, share insights, and showcase Deloitte’s expertise and offerings in software testing. Looking forward, I am preparing for an upcoming project in Romania, where I will be travelling for the first time to work in an international project. This opportunity  is an exciting step in my career and I am eager to take on the new challenges it will bring, continuing to build on the skills I have developed so far."

Expand your horizons: throwback on this year’s Summer Swaps

This year, Deloitte ACG (Advisory & Consulting Group) Luxembourg participated again in the DCE (Deloitte Central Europe) Consulting Summer SWAP (exchange) program, a short-term, 4-week exchange program with other DCE offices allowing selected Consultants and Senior Consultants to exchange best practices with their hosting Office and develop an international network of professional contacts.  Irene, a Senior Consultant agreed to give us his feedback :  “As a Senior Consultant from Deloitte Paris, my Swap in Luxembourg’s Digital teams was incredibly enriching. Working on energy sector projects, particularly in renewables and digital transformation, gave me valuable insights into cross-border collaboration and innovation. I highly recommend this program to anyone eligible—it’s a unique chance to gain fresh perspectives, expand international networks, and explore new markets!” What advice would you give to someone looking to start their career in Advisory & Consulting? "If you're starting in Consulting, move forward with curiosity and a structured approach: analyzing and solving problems will quickly become your daily allies. Take advantage of every assignment to explore different sectors and suggest ideas, even small ones – we often learn by daring. And most importantly, keep this in mind: alone you go faster, but together you go further!"

Get to know our colleague | Meet Luisa from Tax Digital Factory team !

I'm Luisa, a PMO at the Tax Digital Factory, currently living in Luxembourg but proudly Italian. My projects revolve around the exciting world of Generative AI (GenAI). I frequently collaborate on cross-firm initiatives to bring to Deloitte Luxembourg the latest and greatest in GenAI technologies. Can you tell us about your career journey at Deloitte since you joined? I joined Deloitte Luxembourg in September 2020, starting out as an HR Trainee within the Recruitment & Sourcing Team. Back then, my days were filled with attending job fairs and organizing recruitment days. I later transitioned into a more generalist role within the HR People Coordination Team, where I learned to manage the entire employee lifecycle from start to finish. As I got more involved in various projects, my focus shifted towards gaining efficiency, which introduced me to the exciting world of Generative AI (GenAI). I first started working on some GenAI and HR projects, which sparked my interest and led me to my current role. Now, I’m a full-time Project Manager in the GenAI Team. If you could hang out with any cartoon character, who would you choose and why? If I could hang out with any cartoon character, it would definitely be BoJack Horseman. Because despite his flaws, BoJack has a unique perspective on life that’s both profound and hilarious. Spending a day with him would be a rollercoaster of deep conversations, witty banter, and maybe a bit of existential pondering. Plus, I would love to meet the other characters in their world too – navigating the ups and downs of Hollywoo(d) with such a cast would make for an unforgettable experience! If you were famous what would you be famous for? If I were famous, I would be the ultimate talk-show hostess - think Jimmy Fallon, but with a TikTok twist! I would be vibing with celebs, spilling tea, and pulling off the wackiest challenges. My show would have everything: tunes, laughs, and jaw-dropping fashion. Every night would be a total vibe, no missing an episode allowed 😉. What was the last movie you went to? What did you think? Honestly, I can't remember the last movie I went to, but I'm definitely planning to go seeing the new Joker movie when it hits theatres. I'm excited about it because Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are sure to deliver an amazing performance. It's going to be a cinematic experience I definitely won't miss! What are your hobbies? I like playing chess, even though I’m not very good at it (the Grandmaster title will have to wait for now). Pilates is my go-to for staying fit and finding some calm amidst a busy schedule. And, of course, I enjoy diving into a good book – there's nothing quite like getting lost in a story or expanding my knowledge with a great read. Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Honestly, I’m not quite sure! I think I’m a bit of both. I like public speaking and feel energized presenting my ideas, but networking events make me feel a bit anxious and out of my element. Is there a term for someone who thrives on stage but feels uneasy in a crowd? If you know the answer, please let me know!
