Cummins student placements – explore your potential

If your degree includes a year in industry, Cummins offers 12-month work placements for students on STEM, media, business, finance or related programmes. You’ll work with some of the brightest minds in the field, gain general work experience and have a mentor to support you. And if you make a good impression, you might be invited back after you graduate!

What does Cummins do?

Cummins is a multinational corporation that designs, manufactures and markets engines and generators. It employs around 58,000 people at over 9,000 locations worldwide and has appeared on the Ethisphere World’s Most Ethical Companies for 14 consecutive years. But Cummins isn’t just about engineering jobs. Many other roles are necessary for the success of the company: from business, finance and project management to sales, design and technology.

What does a Cummins work placement involve?

You’ll receive training to be able work in an experienced team on meaningful cooperative projects where you can learn from your colleagues and contribute your own valuable ideas. Although there’s a strong focus on collaboration, you’ll also be able to develop independent working skills and may also get tasked with your own project to present to your team later.

During the 12-month placement, you’ll experience what it’s like to work in a global engineering and manufacturing company as well as learn all the necessary skills for your role. These will enrich your CV and stand you in excellent stead in your working life later on. In addition to the support of your team, you’ll also have an experienced mentor to help you throughout your placement.

Who can apply?

Students whose degree includes a work placement year can apply. Depending on the specific internship placement, the following degree areas are considered:

  • STEM
  • Specific engineering programmes (including mechanical, thermal, automotive and electrical)
  • Business studies
  • Project management
  • Communication
  • Media (including digital production)
  • Marketing
  • Design
  • Finance and/or accounting
  • Other degree programmes are considered depending on the role
