HSBC internships – investing in your future
If you’re interested in a career in finance and considering an internship, HSBC has a great offering that supports you as you gain experience in an area of banking, finance or operations that interests you. Let’s take a look!
What is HSBC?
HSBC is a British multinational bank and financial services company headquartered in London. With around 39 million customers across 62 countries, it’s the largest bank in Europe in terms of total assets. Its customers include world governments and some of the biggest companies on the planet.
HSBC internships – what’s involved?
HSBC offers multiple internships in finance and beyond across four business areas: commercial banking, global banking and markets, wealth and personal banking, and digital business services. Internships usually run for 8 to 12 weeks. At the beginning of your internship, you’ll receive training in business skills and knowledge. From there, you’ll transition into your internship role, where you’ll be working on projects and shadowing experienced employees and leaders in your segment. The training and work experience included in the internship is designed to prepare you to progress to the HSBC graduate scheme, if you wish.
What kind of support will I receive?
In terms of support, you’ll get plenty! You’ll have a buddy (a member of staff to guide you through the programme) and a mentor (a senior manager to support your development). There are also employee resource groups you can turn to for additional support. In addition, you’ll have full access to the HSBC University programme, which has thousands of online courses and digital resources. Your wellbeing will also be supported through flexible working options and the Headspace mindfulness app.
Who can apply?
HSBC internships are for undergraduates in their penultimate year. In 2022, 70% of interns were studying for a finance-related degree, 19% for a STEM degree and 11% for another non-finance degree. Regardless of degree, you’ll be expected to show a strong interest in finance and HSBC as well as your chosen area of business.
