Ørsted apprenticeship programme – start a career in green energy
Ørsted, also written as Ørsted, is a Danish multinational energy company that develops, constructs and operates offshore wind farms and other renewable energy facilities. The company champions green energy and is a recognised global leader on the CDP Climate Change A List. With ambitious targets to advance the renewable energy revolution over the next few critical years, Ørsted has recently ramped up its technician/engineering apprenticeship programme and is recruiting more apprentices than ever.
What is the Ørsted apprenticeship?
This three-year wind turbine technician apprenticeship is designed to give you the skills, knowledge and experience required to operate and maintain offshore wind turbines as a fully qualified wind turbine technician. As part of the programme, apprentices study for a Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician (MOET) qualification, which also incorporates a BTEC Level 3 in engineering.
Ørsted has partnered with external educational institutions to provide the theoretical teaching aspect of the apprenticeship, which is carried out over the first year. The remaining two years of the programme are spent working at Ørsted. Upon successfully completing the apprenticeship, you’ll go on to a full-time position at Ørsted.
Who’s the apprenticeship for?
This apprenticeship is for school leavers aged 16 and over. The academic requirements are GCSEs in Maths, English and Science/Technology at grade 4 (C before 2017) or above (or equivalent). The programme best suits hands-on people who like solving problems, being outdoors and are interested in engineering and renewable energy. Sea travel and teamwork are also integral to the role.
As for future prospects, the skills you learn during the apprenticeship provide a great foundation for developing into engineering and safety roles, as well as branching out into leadership or project management. In addition, since Ørsted is an international company, there may be job opportunities overseas.
