What does KPMG do?

One of the “Big 4” accountancy and consulting firms, KPMG provides professional services to its clients in banking, fashion, the energy sector and beyond. Since it offers so many diverse services, KPMG’s operations are split into six business areas:

  • Audit
  • Consulting
  • Deal Advisory
  • Tax & Law
  • Technology & Engineering
  • KPMG Business Services

All of these areas offer their own graduate schemes except Business Services.

What’s it like to work at KPMG?

At KPMG, there’s a focus on wellbeing, diversity and community. There’s a range of employee perks too: from health and wellbeing support initiatives to a daily lunch allowance and lifestyle discounts. You can spend six days of work time a year on volunteering activities and get involved in KPMG’s social networks to make friends and take part in events. You also get your birthday off every year as standard! KPMG was 8th in the Times Top 100 UK Graduate Employers in 2022.

Audit graduate programmes

Simply put, auditing involves examining a company to ensure its accounts represent the real picture of their financial results. The three programmes available in this business area are: Audit, Accounting Advisory and Assurance, and Technology Audit.

Consulting graduate programmes

On this graduate scheme, you’ll learn how to advise companies in your specialist area: Actuarial, Customer, Financial Transformation, Forensic, Governance, Risk & Compliance Services (GRCS), Operational Transformation, People Consulting, and Risk & Regulatory. In some specialisations, you’ll also be able to study towards the ACA (associate chartered accountant) qualification.

Deal Advisory graduate programmes

This is all about supporting clients in a variety of deals, from the initial stages through to completion and follow-up. As a graduate, you can choose to specialise in Climate Risk & Sustainability, Data Analytics and Technology, Deal Advisory, Mergers & Acquisitions, and The Strategy Group.

Tax & Law graduate programmes

Tax is a big part of running a business and tax law can be complicated. As part of Tax & Law at KPMG, you’ll be advising clients on how to manage their tax obligations or helping them find legal solutions in the course of their operations. There are four specialist programmes: Global Mobility Services (GMS) Technology, Japan Practice in Tax (working with Japanese clients operating in Europe), KPMG Law, and Tax.

Technology & Engineering

KPMG is a tech-driven company since technology is such an integral part of all areas of modern business. STEM graduates have the opportunity to specialise in highly relevant areas of technology, making them valuable experts in their fields.
